CLINICS, the official scientific journal of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) and Hospital das Clínicas (HCFMUSP), reached the highest impact factor to date, 2,365, in a report for the year 2020, published by Journal Citation Reports (JCR), on June 30, 2021.

The JCR stands out in the scientific community around the world because it offers a perspective for evaluating and comparing journals through the accumulation and tabulation of citation counts and articles from virtually every specialty in the fields of science. It lists an impact factor for each of the journals it evaluates and which are indexed in the Web of Science database, published annually by Clarivate Analytics, in the United States. This is an important tool to help researchers define where to publish their work and which journals should be used in their studies, in addition to being a basis for librarians' analysis when they need to decide whether or not to acquire literary works. JCR evaluates journals from thousands of publishers, hundreds of disciplines, and more than 80 countries.

CLINICS is an electronic journal that publishes peer-reviewed articles in a continuous stream, targets physicians and researchers in the medical and biomedical sciences area, and allows free access to articles as soon as they are published. It is among the 10 Brazilian journals with the greatest impact on the JCR and takes first place in general and internal medicine.

Currently, the editorial board of the magazine is formed by the chief editor Prof. Luiz Felipe Pinho Moreira, from the Department of Cardiopneumology at FMUSP, associate editor Prof. José Maria Soares Junior, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at FMUSP, editorial supervisor Kavita Kirankumar Patel-Rolim, and editorial assistants Nair Gomes and Daniela Aquemi Higa, in addition to having a large body of collaborators, divided between area editors, editorial board and council of governors.
